On March 2, 2026, Motivational Monday evolved into The Weekly Spark.
The name is new, but the mission is constant. I am dedicated to sharing original black-and-white photography and concise thoughts designed to set your direction and fuel your actions. In a world of digital static, we are here to find clarity.

Beyond the Straight Line: Navigating Your Own Journey Through Time

I came across this sign in the quiet and beautiful stretches of Oregon during the first state of my bike ride across America. "Journey Through Time" is a massive concept for a roadside marker, but it perfectly captures how we move through the world. We aren’t just traveling across a physical landscape; we are navigating the deep layers of history, one moment at a time.
Lately, the archives of life have been opening up through connection and conversation. I recently shared an AI-generated video that appeared in my YouTube feed (link to video at the end of this post) with some people about life in the 60s. It was a vivid, well-crafted look at a different era. In response, one sent over a photo of himself and the people he grew up with many years ago. It was a captured moment from their youth, a snapshot in which they each seemed so innocent, standing at the very beginning of their unique, individual roads. Another texted, "Things have changed so much since we were kids". Those simple exchanges felt like a bridge between the digital present and a lived past.
A straight line is the shortest path, but the detours are where the growth happens. I've realized that the path is never that simple, and it shouldn't be. Every decision, every redirection, and every moment of rest is a fresh sentence on the page. Even the act of stepping back to reconsider these words—pausing the momentum to ensure the story rings true—is as vital as any progress made. We aren't just spectators; we are the ones deciding how this current chapter connects to the friends, the photos, and the decades that came before.
The story doesn’t wait for a finish line to have meaning. It’s found in the active choice to keep moving, in the adjustments we make to meet challenges, and in the way we weave our history into our future.
Spark of the Week:
Reflecting on the moments that resurfaced for me this week, I'm curious about your own. What do you miss most about the decade or the times you grew up in?
