It all starts with a dream

Sometimes, the biggest sources of motivation don't come from books or seminars. They come from the people right in front of us—or in this case, the people on the other end of a text message.

The image above captures a special piece of my history: the "Dan Tracker." This map hung in my employer’s office back in 2017, where they tracked my progress daily as I rode my bicycle solo across the country. Seeing those pins and the "Mission Completed" photo brings that journey rushing back. It’s a testament to the fact that big adventures are never truly solo; there’s always a community watching, cheering, and tracking along with you.

But today's inspiration actually comes from a much simpler moment.

The quote on the image—"It all starts with a dream! the rest is, learning as you go"—wasn't written by a famous philosopher. It was a text from my nephew. We were just messaging back and forth about various topics, and he dropped that gem of wisdom casually into the conversation.

It made me realize something interesting. Just recently, another post I wrote was sparked by a text exchange with my friend Colleen. It seems that in our digital world, profound wisdom is often hiding in plain sight, nestled between emojis and daily updates.

We often wait for a "perfect" moment or a grand sign to start something new. But as my nephew so perfectly put it, the dream is the only prerequisite. You don't need to know every turn of the route before you start pedaling. You just need the dream to get you going; the learning happens out on the road.
