Making Space for What Matters

At Kathryn Albertson Park in Boise, the turtles in the image below show that dry ground is limited. There is only so much space to go around.

The world is noisy and usually overflowing. It’s easy to feel underwater when the workload doesn't stop. But the rock doesn't grow to fit the chaos. Energy and time are fixed. Instead of trying to do everything, the goal is to occupy the space that actually matters.

Claim the Space
Finding dry ground is an intentional act. Rather than waiting for the water to recede, the space is found by prioritizing what matters most.

• Identify the Non-Negotiables: Decide what needs to be on the rock today—family, a core project, or rest.
• Block it First: Physically block out time for those things before anything else. Occupy that space.
• Let the Rest Be: Everything else has to find its own way.

The Simple Math
When the non-negotiables are on the rock first, it creates a boundary. If a low-priority task doesn't fit, it stays in the water. That’s not a failure; it’s just how space works. It can float or sink, but it can't crowd out the essentials.

​Peace comes from knowing what belongs on the rock. The space is small, so the choices have to be clear.
