Coffee on the patio of a bed and breakfast in Nimrod, Oregon
There’s something about a quiet moment with a cup of coffee that puts life into perspective. This photo was taken on the second day of my 3 ½ month bike ride across America, at a small bed and breakfast in Nimrod, Oregon. By that point, the long hours in the saddle had already caught up with me—I was tired, my legs were sore, and I wondered what the weeks ahead might hold.
But that morning, sitting by the river with a warm cup of coffee in hand, everything shifted. The sound of the water, the fresh air, and the stillness around me brought a sense of calm I didn’t know I needed. It reminded me that even in the middle of a challenge, we need to pause, breathe, and let ourselves relax.
That moment also gave me a new perspective on my ride and on life itself. My motto became:
“It doesn’t matter how fast I’m going as long as my wheels are moving forward.”
That simple phrase carried me through many tough days on the road. It wasn’t about speed or perfection—it was about persistence, presence, and progress.
And really, that’s the heart of today’s reminder: Stop living busy and get busy living.
Living isn’t about squeezing more into the calendar. It’s about noticing the world around us, sharing time with the people who matter, and giving ourselves permission to pause.
That short stop in Nimrod, Oregon didn’t just restore my energy for the ride ahead—it gave me clarity. It set the tone for the rest of my journey: this wasn’t about racing across the country, it was about experiencing it.
Here’s the challenge for this week:
  • Trade one “busy” activity for a “living” one.
  • Step outside, even for ten minutes.
  • Call someone you care about.
  • Or simply sit quietly with your thoughts and let life slow down.
Because at the end of the day, it’s not about how busy you were—it’s about how fully you lived.
