Motivational Monday - A photo and concise thought to set your direction and fuel your actiona
Marking 52 weeks of intentional imagery. On March 2, 2026, we transition from Motivational Monday to The Weekly Spark. While the name is new, the core mission remains the same: sharing original black-and-white photography and curated captions that strip away the noise to find clarity. I invite you to continue this journey as we find the spark in every new week.

Trusting the Silent Pause

Black and white photo of a dragonfly on a fishing pole in Idaho
The air in Idaho has a specific kind of stillness, especially when you’re out on the water. Years ago, while fishing with my son, one of those quiet moments was captured perfectly.

Truth be told, he always did much more of the actual fishing than I did. I was often content to just be there, camera in hand, watching the rhythm of the cast and the water. Because of that, I was fortunate enough to be ready when this dragonfly decided that the very tip of his fishing pole was the best seat in the house.
Most people might have jumped or pointed, but my son understood the weight of that moment. He didn't startle the visitor; instead, he simply remained still, holding the rod steady against the sky. He softly whispered, "Dad, look at my fishing pole," giving me just enough time to frame the shot and capture this guest.
Finding Meaning in the Stillness
The dragonfly stayed there for what felt like an eternity, perfectly balanced between the sky and the water. It was a silent pause—that space between action and result where the real magic of the journey happens.

In a world that demands constant movement, we often view silence or waiting as "dead time." We want the fish to bite, the project to finish, or the next big thing to happen now. But as my son showed me that day, there is an incredible power in remaining undisturbed.

This photo brings back the warmth of those afternoons. It’s a testament to simply living life—the bond of shared silence and the realization that the "spark" isn't always in the catch, but in the wait.
Simple times, simple pleasures, lasting memories.
A New Chapter: The Weekly Spark
This image is the ideal way to launch The Weekly Spark. As we transition into this new series, the mission remains the same: to find the profound in the simple. Life isn’t just about the miles we cover or the fish we land, but about the moments where we stop—completely still—to notice what’s resting right in front of us.

As you head into your week, I challenge you to trust the silent pause. When things feel slow or quiet, don't rush to fill the void. Sit with it. You might find that the inspiration you’ve been seeking is already there, waiting for you to notice.
